Tuesday Group Leaders
Beginners Group: If you are new to running or coming back from a long lay off this is the group for you. The purpose of this group is to help with basic technique and get you from the "walk a little / run a little" stage, to be able to run consistently with one of the other groups or take part in the Longrun Meadow 5K (3 miles) park run.
Current Leader is Nik Matravers, a regular park runner along with son Gabe and Husband Bod (both members of the club).
Once you can run 3 miles, this group is the next step in enjoying your running. The Robins run 4-5 miles without walking at what we call talking pace - Faster runners in the group loop round to the back to keep the group safely together - they run a bit further and faster so no-one gets left behind.
Steady running in this group. The Ravens run 4-5 miles at a not too fast pace for those improving.
Once you can run 3 miles, this group is the next step in enjoying your running. The Zoologicals run 4-5 miles without walking at what we call talking pace - looping and waiting will make sure runners joining the group are kept safely together.
This is certainly a group to promote our Run 4 Fun principals - both Nikki & Victoria have a great sense of humour and will help you improve with a smile.
The Sneakers group is for runners that are happy with a pace of around 10 min/mile perhaps attempting a sub 1 hour 10K
Sam has been with Taunton Running Club since the beginning and is a true "All Black"
The Muffins group is for runners that can run 5-6 miles comfortably. Pace is generally around 10 minute/mile - Looping ensures the group stay safely together and under the control of the group leader.
Group Leadership is currently shared
The DustBusters is for runners that can run at a pace between 9:15 to 9:45 minute miles. The group will be paced at 9:30 and aim to run 6 to 6.5 miles. With a last mile pace challenge for anybody who has a few beans left at the end of the run.
The Arrows Group
As the name suggests this group was born out of the Archers group and is for runners that can run 7+ miles comfortably. Pace is generally 8:30 min/mile or less - This is our fastest group and the runners tend push each other to improve their pace.
